Where the design comes from

The Nibelungs and Beowulf · Anónimo. Un poeta sin nombre del Danubio (h. 1200) y dos escribas ingleses (h. 1000), sobre tradición oral germánica y escandinava · h. 1000 – h. 1200. Dos poemas que nadie firmó: uno copiado en Inglaterra hacia el año 1000, otro compuesto junto al Danubio hacia 1200. De ahí sale medio bestiario del cine fantástico: el dragón que duerme sobre un tesoro, la espada con nombre propio, el héroe con un punto débil en la espalda. Sabbath and Grimoire · Folclore anónimo, fijado por Ulrich Molitor, Matthew Hopkins y el «Petit Albert» · 1487–1828. Las brujas del cine no salen de ningún juicio: salen de seis xilografías alemanas de 1489, de un folleto inglés de 1647 y de un grimorio francés de 1722. La piedra filosofal no es un invento de guionista: fue un programa de trabajo que ocupó a media Europa durante siglos y dejó detrás un archivo de imágenes rarísimas. Aquí están los libros de los que salen —el Splendor Solis, el Rosarium, el Mutus Liber, la Atalanta fugiens— y el señor de carne y hueso al que le inventaron la leyenda.
