Forms of Nature · Maria Sibylla Merian, John James Audubon y Ernst Haeckel · 1705-1904. Una alemana que se embarcó sola hacia Surinam en 1699, un francés criado en Nantes que mataba a tiros los pájaros antes de pintarlos y un biólogo de Jena que dibujaba medusas para no pensar en su mujer muerta. Sus láminas siguen siendo la plantilla de la que sale casi cualquier criatura de cine: cuando un departamento de arte necesita un bicho que no existe pero que parezca catalogado, va a estos tres libros.
