Overwhelmed by her sister Hunter’s death, Jax connects with Luce, Hunter’s fearless friend. To heal, they attempt the infamous plank walk of Mount Kwan in Thailand. After a sudden rockslide leaves them stranded on a fragile plank 3000 feet in the air, Jax must confront her deepest fears and fight for survival to find closure.

Summits and Contour Lines

Ice axes of the pattern Whymper settled: broad adze, long drooping pick, ash shaft, iron ferrule. Coils of manila rope with the ends frayed, rope ladders, expedition lanterns, ten-point crampons and the iron-shod alpenstocks that came before the axe. And underneath it all, always, the map: hachures thickening as the slope falls away, contour lines closing tight at the summit, numbered panorama profiles, and the Matterhorn seen in plan, its four ridges laid out.
