The adventures of Prue McKeel as she sets off to the forests outside Portlandia to find her kidnapped brother. Wildwood is a tale of love, loss, sacrifice and secrets, and of the magic you can find on your doorstep, if you’re willing to look for it.

What it is made of

The source

The Raven and the Pendulum

A raven perched on a bust of Pallas above the chamber door, a pendulum shaped like a crescent of steel, seven coloured rooms with an ebony clock at the far end, and a black cat marked with a patch that slowly takes the shape of a gallows. Montresor's trowel, too, the gold-bug with its parchment and its cipher, and the pale blue, film-covered eye of “The Tell-Tale Heart”. These are objects, not symbols, which is exactly why they hold up when printed.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin

Pipers in coats of parti-coloured cloth, carrying a short, shabby pipe, never a noble instrument. Rats swarming down towards the river, stepped-gable façades, lines of children climbing a hill marked with two stones set in a cross. The look comes from the engravings of Kate Greenaway (1888) and Arthur Rackham (1934), and from the imagery fixed by the Deutsche Sagen.
