Here Comes the Bogeyman
A standing spectre wrapped in a sheet, faceless, with a hollowed pumpkin for a head: two crooked eyes and an open mouth knifed into the dry rind. Under the lifted hem of the cloth, a gentleman's pointed shoe — the detail that gives away the man underneath. Around him, the other branch of the family: the hessian sack with holes at eye level, the sheet that erases the face, and the three pores of the coconut, the same three that gave the palm's fruit its name.
