Based on Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "Master and Margarita". 1930's, Moscow. A famous writer is censored by the Soviet state: his novel is banned, and the theatrical premier of his new play about Pontius Pilate - canceled. In just a few days he becomes an outcast. Inspired by these misfortunes the writer conceives a new novel in which the devil, named Woland, satirically revenges all those responsible for the writer's downfall. He knows this novel can never be published in the USSR, but Margarita - his muse pushes him to write it no matter what.

What it is made of

The source

Sabbath and Grimoire

Cauldrons with a cockerel and a snake dropped in and the storm rising out of the steam; farmyard pitchforks ridden instead of broomsticks; he-goats crowned with vine leaves. A long-legged greyhound with an ox's head called Vinegar Tom, a fat legless spaniel called Jarmara, a polecat called Newes. And the severed hand of a hanged man, wrapped in a shroud and bound with cord wound three times, burning at all five fingers.

The Engraved Bible

A bear up on its hind legs stealing a honeycomb (the Basel title page, 1569); Ezekiel's ophan, a wheel set inside another at right angles with eyes all round the rims; Dürer's four horsemen in a pile-up rather than a line; the ark as a crate with no prow, the tree with the serpent coiled round it, the two tablets with the top corner rounded off. And the way the Mozarabic Beatus painters drew: bands of flat colour, no depth, outsized eyes and beasts that look cut out with scissors.
