The bottle labelled DRINK ME and the cake that says EAT ME, the White Rabbit's pocket watch and white gloves, the Caterpillar's mushroom and hookah, the Cheshire Cat reduced to a floating grin, the flamingo used as a croquet mallet and the hedgehog as the ball, and the whole pack of cards serving as gardeners and soldiers. From the second book come the chessboard, Humpty Dumpty sitting on his wall, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Walrus and the Carpenter, and the Jabberwock with its bat wings and waistcoat. The top hat carrying the ticket «In this style 10/6» —ten shillings and sixpence, half a guinea— is Tenniel's invention: it appears nowhere in the text.
